Jimmy, I hope you like this post more than I liked your writing prompt

I wanted to write a blog post tonight, but I didn’t have anything I wanted to write about. Luckily tonight is Blogapalooz-Hour. At 9 PM our dogged ChicagoNow Community Manager Jimmy gave us all a writing prompt, and we bloggers were challenged to write a post and publish it exactly one hour later at 10 PM. Perfect. The kids are already in bed. This will be a great opportunity to write.

Unless the writing prompt sucks.

Sure, I’m a fast writer if there is something I want to write about, but many traditional writing prompts fall flat with me, which is why I rarely like to use them.

There was another Blogapalooz-Hour this morning. That prompt was “Write about the greatest meal you’ve ever had.” Yuck. I was at work and couldn’t participate anyway, but I have no idea what I would have written for that.

So is tonight’s prompt any better?

Write about something you believed as a child or in your youth that turned out not to be true.”

Seriously, Jimmy? Seriously?! You may be someone’s muse, but you sure as heck aren’t mine.

I mean, yes, there were things I believed as a child or in my youth that turned out not to be true. Of course, there are those things. It doesn’t mean I want to write about them.

Like George Michael.

Fine. When I was in Junior High I believed George Michael was straight even though my friend Linda tried to convince me otherwise. Clearly, that turned out not to be true. I was wrong okay. There. I typed it. I was wrong. Is that what you wanted, Jimmy?

George Michael
I was so, so wrong.

Or how about fellatio? No, Jimmy, I am not offering you fellatio (although George Michael might). I’m just remembering how I read that word in a biography of Marilyn Monroe and assumed for years it was pronounced fell-luh-Tee-o. Also not true!

And I’m sure there were some other things I believed that turned out not to be true that didn’t have to do with sex, but the fact that I am only thinking of sex examples is all the more reason to ignore this writing prompt. (My mother reads my blog, Jimmy. Are you trying to embarrass me in front of my mom?)

Nope. I’m not going to participate in Blogapalooz-Hour tonight. I was still hoping to write something though. I wonder if Jimmy will be mad at me if I write a post whining about how I didn’t like his writing prompt? I guess I’ll find out. (If my blog disappears tomorrow, you’ll know why.)

P.S. Sorry, Jimmy.
