I wrote a Thanksgiving poem based on the children’s song “There was an old lady who swallowed a fly.” It is a cautionary tale.
On Thanksgiving a lady ate lots of pie. I don’t know why she ate lots of pie. She feels like she’ll die.
On Thanksgiving a lady ate too much bread. She was out of her head to eat so much bread.
She ate the bread before the pie. I don’t know why she ate so much pie. She feels like she’ll die.
On Thanksgiving a lady ate potatoes with gravy. Here stomach was wavy from those potatoes with gravy.
She ate potatoes with gravy before she ate bread. She ate the bread before the pie. I don’t know why she ate so much pie. She feels like she’ll die.
On Thanksgiving a lady ate cranberry jelly. It moved in her belly that cranberry jelly.
She ate cranberry jelly before potatoes with gravy. She ate potatoes with gravy before the bread. She ate the bread before the pie. I don’t know why she ate so much pie. She feels like she’ll die.
On Thanksgiving a lady ate bean casserole. She’s paying the toll for that bean casserole.
She had bean casserole with the cranberry jelly. She ate cranberry jelly before potatoes with gravy. She ate potatoes with gravy before the bread. She ate the bread before the pie. I don’t know why she at so much pie. She feels like she’ll die.
On Thanksgiving a lady gorged on bread stuffing. Her tummy was puffing from so much bread stuffing.
She ate bread stuffing before bean casserole. She ate bean casserole with the cranberry jelly. She ate cranberry jelly before potatoes with gravy. She ate potatoes with gravy before the bread. She ate the bread before the pie. I don’t know why she ate so much pie. She feels like she’ll die.
On Thanksgiving a lady ate much turkey meat. Oh, what a feat to eat so much turkey meat.
She ate the turkey before the bread stuffing. She ate bread stuffing before bean casserole. She ate bean casserole with the cranberry jelly. She ate cranberry jelly before potatoes with gravy. She ate potatoes with gravy before the bread. She ate the bread before the pie. I don’t know why she at so much pie. She feels like she’ll die.
On Thanksgiving a lady drank lots of wine. She thought it was fine to drink so much wine.
She drank the wine to wash down the turkey and also the stuffing and the bean casserole and the cranberry jelly and potatoes with gravy and also the bread and, of course, all that pie. I don’t know why she ate so much pie.
Shh. She’s sleeping.
