Our neighborhood gets more than 1,000 trick-or-treaters each Halloween. I know this because we count them. In 2012 we had 1,173 trick-or-treaters. in 2011 we had 1,198. Actually, those counts are probably a bit low though since when a couple of dozen kids storm your front porch wanting candy an accurate head count is not always possible.
You may notice that we had fewer trick-or-treaters last year than the previous year. That’s not because of a decrease in demand. That’s because we ran out of candy at 7:30, and we had to turn the porch light off. Defeated!
So how much candy do I need for more than 1,000 trick-or-treaters? Currently I have 16 large bags of various Halloween candy to give to trick-or-treaters on this year. Do you think its enough?
Or is that too much candy for trick-or-treating this Halloween?
We had mild weather on Halloween for the past two years. At this time there is a 60% chance of rain for this Halloween. If it’s raining I suspect we’ll have far fewer costumed visitors, and I’ll be stuck with a lot of candy. A lot of candy. (If that happens I’ll try to forget everything I learned from this post about what it takes to work off the calories in Halloween candy.)
Of course, I’m hoping for mild weather and an unbelievable numbers of trick-or-treaters. They are a lot of what makes Halloween fun. Trick-or-treat!
