October 14th
I heard the dark again last night. I may have been asleep. I can’t tell anymore.
The man with the shadow voice sang me a lullaby. I told him to go away. He didn’t. I felt his cold voice on the side of my face.
He told me I shouldn’t be afraid. That made me more afraid.
He said he promised not to hurt me. I told him he already had.
He wiped away my tears with a cold clammy hand, or perhaps it was a kiss. My eyes were squeezed closed. I didn’t want to see.
I said, “Why don’t you kill me now? Just get it over with. Please.”
Then he was gone.
My goosebumps lasted until morning.
