Care for Real school supply drive: Help Chicago kids by shopping

One of my favorite things about school was shopping for brand new school supplies at the beginning of each year. Unfortunately, a lot of families cannot afford to buy their kids the supplies they need for school. This is why Care for Real is again having a school supply drive. They will distribute school supplies to children in need on Tuesday, August 13 but need donations.

Last year Care for Real distributed backpacks full of school supplies to 650 school children in Edgewater. Care for Real Executive Director Lyle Allen expects the demand to be greater this year. Supplies needed include notebooks, binders, paper, pens, pencils, colored pencils, glue, staplers/staples, erasers and especially backpacks.

One easy to way to help support the Care for Real school supply drive is to purchase items from this Amazon wish list. The items will ship directly to Care for Real.

If you are local you can drop off items for the school supply drive at Care for Real (5339 North Sheridan Road) from 9 am to 3 pm Monday through Friday or 9 am to noon on Saturday. You can also drop off donations at Mb Financial Bank at 5960 North Broadway.

Please get your school supply donations to Care for Real by Monday, August 12 so that they can distribute them on August 13. There is little most of us can do about the Chicago Public Schools massive school closing and teacher lay offs, but we can help Chicago school kids in a very tangible way by donating to Care for Real’s school supply drive.
