40 days until my 40th birthday

40 days. It is 40 days until my 40th birthday.

35 weeks ago I started making lists of 40 things each week. I’ve made 35 lists so far. I only have 5 more to go to get to 40 lists.

My most recent list is a video gallery of events and popular culture from the year I was born. I’ll save you the math and tell you that’s 1973. I also did a list of famous people born in 1973. But most of the lists haven’t been 40th birthday or birth year related.

I’ve given tips on parenting, professionalism and computer security. I’ve listed favorite cancelled TV shows, documentaries and Pinterest pages. I’ve chronicled a journey down the Wikipedia rabbit hole and declared the least sexy words I know. You can see all the lists to date here.

What will the last 5 lists be about? Even I don’t know for sure.

Don’t ask what I’m going to do for my birthday either. I still have no idea.

Don’t ask me what I want for my birthday. I don’t really know unless you can create more hours in the day or make me independently wealthy. (My poor husband was going to get me a gift certificate to my favorite neighborhood spa, but they closed unexpectedly. He’ll have to come up with something else, which I know he hates.)

Ugly 40th birthday cake
One thing I don’t want for my 40th birthday is a tacky yellow cake like this. What is around it? Apple slices? Slugs?

Actually, there is something I’d like for my birthday. It’s a crowd-sourced act of kindness that I hope to post later in the week once I get some logistics sorted out. Stay tuned!

What will happen in 40 days? I have no idea. What will change after my 40th birthday? Probably not much.

One thing I do know is I will keep this blog going. Writing here has been an exciting exercise. I’m glad I started, and if you are reading this I am glad you are here. I hope you’ll stick around.
