After the great disappointment of finding an empty toy donation bin for two weeks in a row I was thrilled when Bikram Hot Yoga Midwest called to let me know that bin was overflowing. Was it ever! You can see the bounty in the photo. I kept telling myself that the toys would come, but I admit that I was a little worried. Thank you to everyone who dropped off toys!
Care for Real will distribute toys next week, so there is still time to give. You can drop off a toy at Bikram Hot Yoga Midwest, 5715 North Clark Street (upstairs) through Sunday, December 16th or your can give online here. We’re nearing our goal!
As an added incentive, this Friday is “Wear Star Wars, Share Star Wars” day. This is the third year for this anti-bullying event that arose in support of a little girl who was bullied for liking Star Wars. You can read more about the event on Carrie Goldman’s blog “Portrait of An Adoption.” From Carrie’s post, here is how to participate:
- Wear something Star Wars or science fiction-related.
- Donate a Star Wars or science fiction toy to a child in need (but please put a post-it note on the new, unwrapped toy specifying that it can go to a girl or a boy; otherwise, these traditional “boy toys” will be given only to boys). You can bring the toy to a hospital, a shelter, or drop it off with any charitable organization collecting toys.
I’d love to see some sci-fi toys in the Care for Real bin. You can declare your support of “Wear Star Wars, Share Star Wars” by joining the Facebook event here.
Whatever way to choose to show your support, please help Care for Real bring holiday joy to the families they serve.
